City Council Committee on Public Safety and Criminal Justice Hearing on Dockets #0929, #0933, #0935, #0936, and #0937

The Committee will hold a hearing to discuss various grants awarded by MA Executive Office of Public Safety and MA Department of Mental Health to be issued to the Boston Police Department.

    Message and order authorizing the City of Boston to accept and expend the amount of Four Million Dollars ($4,000,000.000) in the form of a grant, for the FY23 Public Safety Answering Point Support and Incentive Grant, awarded by the MA Executive Office of Public Safety & Security to be administered by the Police Department. The grant will fund costs associated with providing Enhanced 911 services.

    Message and order authorizing the City of Boston to accept and expend the amount of Four Hundred Thirteen Thousand Eight Hundred Ninety Dollars ($413,890.00) in the form of a grant, for the FY23 State 911 Training Grant, awarded by the MA Executive Office of Public Safety & Security to be administered by the Police Department. The grant will fund the training and certification of Enhanced 911 telecommunications staff.

    Message and order authorizing the City of Boston to accept and expend the amount of One Hundred Sixty Seven Thousand Dollars ($167,000.00) in the form of a grant, for the FY23 Crisis Intervention Team-Training & Technical Assistance Center, awarded by the MA Department of Mental Health to be administered by the Police Department. The grant will fund the implementation and staffing of a CIT-TTAC through Boston Police Street Outreach Unit and Academy.

    Message and order authorizing the City of Boston to accept and expend the amount of One Hundred Six Thousand Five Hundred Seventy Five Dollars ($106,575.00) in the form of a grant, for the FY23 DMH Co-Response Grant, awarded by MA Department of Mental Health to be administered by the Police Department. The grant will fund a full-time recovery coach/forensic peer specialist to assist BPD officers with HUB meetings citywide.

    Message and order authorizing the City of Boston to accept and expend the amount of One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($100,000.00) in the form of a grant, for the FY23 DMH Training Grant, awarded by the MA Department of Mental Health to be administered by the Police Department. The grant will fund overtime cost to backfill Crisis Intervention Team Training and other mental health training for officers.

    These matters were sponsored by the Administration and referred to the Committee on August 10, 2022.
