  2. Background

    The Surveillance, Data, and Privacy Working Group was established by the Ordinance on Surveillance Oversight and Information Sharing passed by City Council in October 2021. The Working Group is tasked with identifying a set of priorities and implementable objectives to increase the transparency, accountability, and engagement around the public deployment of technology and use of data within select City of Boston departments.

    The Working Group includes representatives from the ACLU of Massachusetts, the Student Immigrant Movement, the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Innovation and Technology, and the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics.
