Coastal Resilience for Dorchester
We are taking action to protect the Dorchester waterfront from coastal flooding.
As part of the Climate Ready Boston initiative, the Coastal Resilience Solutions for Dorchester plan presented near-term and long-term strategies to adapt the Dorchester waterfront to coastal flooding from sea level rise and storms. Together, the coastal resilience solutions create a vision for the future of the Dorchester coastline that reduces coastal flood risk, improves connectivity and accessibility, and enhances recreation and natural ecosystems.
ABOUT THE PLAN
The Coastal Resilience Solutions for Dorchester plan builds upon the Climate Ready Boston initiative. It aims to maintain the Dorchester community's ability to thrive in the face of coastal flooding resulting from climate change.
During the planning process, the City evaluated the waterfront in Dorchester from Dorchester Bay to the Neponset River. The study area included:
- Columbia Point;
- Clam Point and Tenean Beach;
- Port Norfolk;
- Neponset Circle and Adams Village; and
- The Neponset riverfront.

IN-PROGRESS PROJECTS
Moakley Park
In early 2019, the City completed the Moakley Park Vision Plan, which is a vision for adding climate resilience and new programs to the park. Led by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, the park redesign is currently underway.
Tenean Beach
Led by the BPDA and Environment Department, the Project is further analyzing existing site conditions and advancing design solutions to address a near-term flood entry point at Tenean Beach via Conley Street under the I-93 expressway.
