Dave Musselman
Dave Musselman has been the Director of the Municipal Energy Unit (MEU) since 2017. The MEU addresses energy issues for the City, particularly in understanding how the City uses energy and how to reduce the energy used and the carbon footprint of the energy the City uses. The MEU works closely with other groups in the Environment Department on resilience and with numerous other City departments on matters relating to energy and the environment.
One of the MEU’s key initiatives is Renew Boston Trust, which is an energy performance contract program to implement energy efficiency measures in municipal buildings and to use the savings to fund them. The measures include among others, installing LED lighting, more efficient HVAC equipment, building management systems, and on-site renewable generation.
Prior to joining the City, Dave had a 30-year career as an attorney and executive in the utility and independent power industry. Dave earned a B.A. from Albion College, a J.D. from Case Western Reserve University, an M.B.A. from Indiana University, and most recently, an S.M. in Urban Studies and Planning from M.I.T. He lives Downtown with his wife.
