Veronica B. Smith Senior Center
Founded in 1981 as the Allston-Brighton Senior Center, the center officially opened its doors in 1982.
Renamed in 1985 the Veronica B. Smith Multi-Service Senior Center after its founder, the center officially became part of the Elderly Commission in 2001. The center offers:
Health and Nutrition Services
Free preventative health care screenings such as vision, hearing and podiatry are available along with free flu shots. Fitness programs such as weekly exercise, wellness and line dancing classes, educational workshops and seminars pertaining to health and nutrition are also offered.
Direct Services and Programming
A wide range of social services can be obtained at the Center, including special seminars and workshops on legal issues and government health benefits.
Comprehensive programs targeted for seniors in the greatest economic and social need are also in place. As well as on-site English as a Second Language classes and translation services. Medical escort services for non-English speaking seniors can also be accessed at the Senior Center.
Public Information
Senior Spotlight is a monthly newsletter published and distributed by the Veronica Smith Senior Center with a circulation base of over 600 community seniors and dozens of community locations such as nursing homes and elderly housing. Topics include issues such as health benefits, upcoming programs and services available at the Center.
