City partnering with Asian American Civic Association to host free legal clinic for small businesses
Mayor Martin J. Walsh today announced that the City of Boston will partner with the Asian American Civic Association to host a Free Legal Clinic for Small Businesses on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., at 87 Tyler Street in Boston.
“The business community is central to Boston’s economic prosperity,” said Mayor Walsh. “This clinic will provide much needed support, allowing business owners--both new and established--to connect with experts on business development and growth.”
This event is hosted by the Asian American Civic Association in partnership with the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Economic Justice, Ropes & Gray, and the City of Boston Offices of Business Development and Small & Local Business Enterprise.
Local Businesses will receive free legal consultation in the following areas:
- Liabilities and formation considerations of different forms of entities, such as S Corporations and Limited Liability Companies
- Tax implications and possible deductions or credits that may be available to your business
- Overview of specific terms and conditions that ought to be included in your contracts with suppliers and/or vendors.
- Lease terms and conditions;
- Zoning laws Employment considerations;
- Intellectual property
The City of Boston’s Offices of Business Development and Small & Local Business Enterprise will provide the following services:
- Assist permitting and licensing your business;
- On site business assistance - business operations, financial management, inventory systems, marketing and more;
- Matching grants for capital improvements for nonprofit facilities;
- ReStore Program - Matching funds for facade improvement, including design. Grant for signage assistant;
- Educational programming for Boston women business owners
- Becoming a certified vendor with the City of Boston
- Contracting opportunities with the City of Boston
In addition, Boston’s Small & Local Business Office, and the Office of Business Development will be on site to provide business development support along with information on how to grow your business through City contracts.
