Lizzie Torres, MPA is an Allston resident and moved to Boston in 2010 to attend Northeastern University and studied political science in undergraduate and later studied Public Administration in graduate school. While attending school, she worked at the Boston 311, the 24 hour constituent services hotline for the City of Boston to create greater accessibility between constituents and city services. While working there, she noticed that artists were not an active part of the civic process, often feeling left out, overlooked and disillusioned by change. This led her to begin work to connect individual passionate artists to local neighborhood civic associations in order to help them understand how the civic process worked. This later would lead to the creation and founding of the civic organization Artist Impact. Artist Impact has since placed artists on Article 80 reviews for public process for housing, institutional master plans, as well as organizing around displacement of artist space concerns, and licensing of new businesses. Lizzie Torres has since become a board member of the Allston Civic Association and continues to bridge artists with public process and development opportunities while writing equitable housing policy in collaboration with housing advocacy organizations.
