Emergency Foreclosure Prevention Fund

The City of Boston has created an Emergency Foreclosure Prevention Fund for those at very high risk for foreclosure because of the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Emergency Foreclosure Prevention Fund is for:
  •  Income eligible Boston homeowners
  • Who live in the home they own
  • And are at very high risk for foreclosure because of negative economic impacts of the COVID pandemic
    • And are at least 90 days late on homeownership related payments

What are the eligibility requirements to receive funds?
1. Your household must earn less than 150% of area median income to be eligible for the fund:
2. Homeowners must be in at least one of the following categories:
  1. Own a "deed restricted" unit
  2. Have previously applied for a modification but been rejected
  3. Be a senior in tax title
  4. Be in a reverse mortgage with delinquencies in a payment category
  5. Have a mortgage delinquency that has been referred to legal counsel
  6. Have received a Soldiers and Sailors Act notice or petition to foreclose
  7. Own a multi-family property and have tenants that have not paid all or some of their rent since March 2020
  8. Are assuming a mortgage because of a death, divorce, or other household division
  9. Is at risk of being 90 days delinquent on any utility bill
3. HOMEOWNERS MUST BE AT LEAST 90 DAYS LATE ON ONE THE FOLLOWING HOMEOWNERSHIP RELATED PAYMENTS:
  • Mortgage payments
  • Interest payments on your mortgage
  • Insurance payments on your home
  • Condominium Association fee payments
  • “Down payments” on loan modifications
  • Utility payments
