Join Boston Poet Laureate Danielle Legros Georges, photographer Jennifer Waddell, and project collaborators for a photography exhibition with a poetry reading celebrating Mattapan and the people who make this Boston neighborhood the vibrant community that it is

 The poetry reading will take place on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. The exhibition will run from June 15 - August 15 at the Mattapan Branch of the Boston Public Library.

During the first public event of the year for this year's cohort of Boston AIR artists, attendees have an opportunity to get involved and share their thoughts regarding local community issues and City policies.

Since January, the seven Boston AIR artists have been researching City policies and practices related to topics, such as climate change and aging, through a lens of resilience and racial equity. The artists have one year to work with community members and City officials on projects to reframe social conversations and search for ways to incorporate art into government.  Through their processes, artists aim to impact policies and systems and provide communities with more pathways to become active in shaping and understanding the policies that influence them.

Join the Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture, Friends of Fort Point Channel, and SPARK Boston for a discussion about how Boston area artists can promote themselves and their communities.

 Todd McNeel, Media Coordinator at the Boston Lyric Opera, will moderate the discussion.

Open Studios are a great way for artists to show their work and connect with the community. Jessica Burko will lead a workshop on the power of arts marketing through social media, email, and print outreach. Artists will also learn best practices for presenting their art and capturing the interest of potential buyers.

Jessica Burko, Director of Marketing at Kingston Gallery, has been an exhibiting artist since 1985. She has also worked as an independent curator, and produced more than 30 exhibitions since 2000. Burko supports artists through lectures, workshops, and partnerships with organizations such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Mass MoCA’s Assets for Artists Program, and the Danforth Museum’s Professional Artists Workshops. She holds a BFA in Fine Art Photography from Rhode Island School of Design, and an MFA in Imaging Arts and Science from Rochester Institute of Technology.
