EXTRAordinary Women 2023
Back Bay
Doris Elizabeth Romero
As Housing and Stabilization Manager, Doris Romero provides expertise and oversight to a team of Advocates at Women's Lunch Place. These Advocates help women who are experiencing homelessness and poverty overcome complex barriers to stable housing. Doris, who also manages a full roster of clients, provides guidance in determining the type and amount of support each woman needs at any given point in her journey. She builds connections with property owners and development companies and is skilled at weaving through the bureaucracies that obscure housing for impoverished and marginalized women.
Once a guest of Women's Lunch Place is housed, Doris and the Advocates facilitate material assistance, connections to her new community, individualized care management, and medical access––all of which increase the probability that the woman will remain safe and anchored in her new home. Whether they are discharging vulnerable medical patients or assisting mothers with substance use disorders, partner organizations across the city count on Doris and her team to source dignified housing opportunities and provide specialized post-housing care and support.
Prior to being promoted to the position of Housing & Stabilization Manager, Doris served as a Senior Advocate at Women's Lunch Place, compiling a remarkable record of finding and securing dignified housing for her clients. Before that, she excelled as a Safe Home Manager for the GLBTQ Domestic Violence Project. In total, Doris has 14 years of experience assisting vulnerable women.
