Stephanie L. Everett, Esq.
Stephanie L. Everett, Esq. has served as the Executive Director of the Office of Police Accountability and Transparency (OPAT) since April 2021. In this role, Director Everett oversees the day-to-day operations of OPAT, in addition to serving as Chair of the OPAT Commission and maintaining oversight of the Civilian Review Board and the Internal Affairs Oversight Panel. Director Everett works directly with the Mayor’s Office, the Boston Police Department, and community partners to implement a series of reforms to policing in the City of Boston.
Prior to her appointment to lead OPAT, Director Everett operated a solo law firm with an emphasis on criminal law, business contracts and real estate matters. For almost two decades, Director Everett has devoted her professional career to public service, working to ensure equal and equitable access to state and local resources, advocating for women's rights, and being a civil rights advocate. Her previous appointments include serving as the Executive Director for various boards within the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), Chief of Staff to the Department of Transitional Assistance, and Deputy Chief of Staff to a Massachusetts State Senator. Additionally, Director Everett has served as Public Safety Manager at the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) where she managed the Shannon Youth Violence Prevention Grant that brought law enforcement agencies and prevention partners from multiple municipalities together to work toward intervention efforts.
Director Everett is a proud Boston native and strong believer of community. As a child, the community uplifted Director Everett as she navigated troubled home life and again when Director Everett became a teen mother. Drawing from the strength of her community, Director Everett was able to persevere through homelessness and break societal expectations of her young family. In 2002, Director Everett received her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University. Completing her educational goals, Director Everett earned her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in 2008 and was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts the same year.
Director Everett has been recognized as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers, a Top Woman of Law by Lawyers Weekly (2012) and as a Woman of Color Changing Our Community by the Eastern Stars of Prince Hall (2013). In January 2009, Director Everett was appointed by the Caucus of Women Legislators to serve on the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women, and served as a Commissioner on the Boston Employment Commission.
