Kate Bennett

Administrator of the Boston Housing Authority

Kate Bennett has worked in affordable housing development, policy and planning for more than 25 years, with a particular focus on public housing revitalization.  As Administrator of the Boston Housing Authority (BHA), she serves on the Mayor’s Cabinet and oversees the City’s public housing and housing voucher programs which provide affordable housing for about 50,000 people in and around the City of Boston.

Kate has been instrumental in implementing several strategic initiatives for the Authority and its portfolio.  She has spearheaded over $2 billion in redevelopment activity currently underway at several BHA sites, such as the Choice Neighborhoods revitalization at the Whittier Street public housing development in Roxbury, the redevelopment of Orient Heights in East Boston and at the Bunker Hill development in Charlestown. Kate has also been instrumental in the development of the BHA’s green, healthy housing and sustainability programs, and in the expansion of resident empowerment and self-sufficiency initiatives.

Kate holds a Masters in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Prior to coming to the BHA, she managed affordable housing programs for the City of Chelsea and the City of Newton. She lives in Roslindale with her family.
