Financial Navigators

Financial Navigators offer guidance to address the financial needs of Boston residents.

If you are experiencing financial difficulties due to the high cost of living, you are not alone. The City of Boston’s trained Financial Navigators are here to connect you to resources that can help get you back on solid financial footing. 

The Financial Navigators program offers Boston residents free, over-the-phone guidance on addressing financial needs, such as feeding your family, paying your bills, and staying in your home, as well as making referrals to City departments and other social services. Additionally, financial wellness starts with good credit. Get a free credit score and credit report review with a Financial Navigator.

To get started, please complete the Financial Navigators intake form or call 617-918-4330. A Financial Navigator will call you to begin your session.

You should expect to receive a phone call from a Financial Navigator within 48 hours of your request.

The Financial Navigator will learn about your financial needs, review your options, and make an effort to address your concerns. The call will last approximately 30 minutes. Afterwards, the Navigator will send you a written follow-up plan with referral information. If you need additional help, you will be able to call back.

Navigators can help you prioritize financial concerns, identify immediate action steps, and make referrals to programs and services. During the call Navigators can help with:

  • Prioritizing daily living expenses, like housing, food, and insurance
  • Maximizing income, by sharing referrals that offer benefit eligibility services, emergency cash assistance, and emergency loans
  • Managing debt, from credit cards to student loans to child support
  • Avoiding predatory scams
  • Accessing other social services Budgeting for future loss of income

Please note: Navigators CANNOT provide direct cash assistance, such as cash or loans.

The Financial Navigators are staff of the Center for Working Families who are trained to help you find the right experts to assist with your financial challenges.

Yes. The money matters discussed in your session will remain confidential.
