Thalia Viveros-Uehara
Thalia is a Ph.D. Candidate at the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development, University of Massachusetts Boston. She is a human rights and environmental lawyer with over ten years of local and international experience in social and economic rights, environmental and climate change law and policy, focusing on structurally excluded populations. She has served as an Adviser to the Mexican Senate and as Director of Advocacy and Civil Society Participation in the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico.
She has been Research Intern at the Boston Human Rights Commission (BHRC) since January 2021. She is also a Visiting Scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg (Germany) and a research affiliate to the Centre on Law and Social Transformation at the University of Bergen (Norway). Her most recent publications include “The fundamental rights to life and health in climate litigation: Insights from Latin America,” “The right to water and vulnerable populations: Whose voices are heard in the UN CESCR Monitoring Mechanism,” and "Healthcare in a changing climate: A review of climate change laws and national adaptation plans in Latin America."
