Nisreen is the first Partnerships and Community Engagement Manager for the Office of Food Justice. She is leading efforts to engage Boston residents and city partners in shaping our food systems so that everyone here can better access sufficient, nutritious, and culturally-relevant foods, produced sustainably and humanely.

Before working for the City of Boston, Nisreen was a policy intern for the City of New Haven’s Food System Policy Division. That experience motivated her to work in local government to create systemic change for more equitable and sustainable food systems. Now she is excited to advance this work closer to home. Nisreen grew up in Quincy, frequently hopping on the redline to Boston to wander the city.

Nisreen recently completed her master’s degree at the Yale School of the Environment, where she focused on food systems and environmental justice. Before then, she worked as a project manager for a nonprofit organization. She engaged various stakeholders, including farmers and ranchers, scientists, and marketplace experts. Nisreen has lived and worked with small farmers internationally to understand their greatest challenges and study community-led problem-solving strategies. Her experiences have inspired her commitment to participatory processes that empower producers and consumers.
